I have an idea from my previous setup, but never really got round to completing it for Exploring and even negotiation of the galaxy map, I need to sort this finally as Im using an old DK2 VR and must stop the temptation to use my keyboard, or mouse. Note that youll need two of the Desk Mount V3-S devices for a HOSAS solution using the Virpil Constellation sticks, which brings the price of accessories up to $140. It feels more robust than the Logitech X-52 and X-56, but lighter than the all-metal Thrustmaster Warthog. From scanning the reddit here it seems that VKB and Virpil seem to have similar quality and satisfaction from those who have bought, so after that it really does come down to how it feels in your hand and actually trying out the buttons and the layout, which is something you dont get to try until youve already made a decision and honestly something that others cant help with. Got a Virpil throttle but I can only program about half the hats, axis', and buttons because of ED limiting us to 32 "buttons" per device. The full analog mini on both (plus the option of the second which is switchable from digital hat to analog on the fly on the MCG Pro) offers additional axes besides the main X/Y. Good news for fans of Microsoft Flight Simulator, Elite Dangerous, and Star Citizen. Here's my mapping for Elite, perhaps a little out of date re: some of the macros I mentioned above, and admittedly I use my LH stick weird (sideways oriented as a throttle) so I've converted an axis to 'relative' mode with a button as reset, which removes it from use as a button in-game. You can watch some youtube teardowns and see that VKB pays attention to the internals in a really impressive way. It's easy! VKB complicate unnecessary the things, because being a "Apple" require a . I didn't say ED provided a game setting for Virpil. The thing that really sold me on it is that the hat switches and mini sticks on the the top are completely modular, so you can literally just drop whichever one you like to suit your purposes without having to take apart the stick. Another highlight for me were Virpils Ace Interceptor Rudder Pedals. VKB complicate unnecessary the things, because being a "Apple" require a additional electronic/mechanic adapter ($60), but their Gunfigther Mk.II* base wasoptimized for deal withWarthoggrip weight. Maybe you should try moving some to other ports on your computer if you haven't tried that yet. ED doesn't 'see' any controllers using the bindings files, check whether you can actuallly bind any of the controls to an action and then create your own bindings file. Looking at grips VKB and Virpil are more similar and it feels like preference is mostly related to hand size and just what each person prefers. Also known as a hand-on-stick-and-stick (HOSAS) setup, I found that it completely changed the flight experience in both Star Citizens Persistent Universe and Elite Dangerous. Previously I had played spaceflight simulation games with a single stick and throttle, which is known as a hands-on-throttle-and-stick (HOTAS) setup. JavaScript is disabled. Everything about it is perfect. The VKB software also allows an enormous amount of customization like a shift key action to double up on everything or (what I find sufficient) a 'tempo' function so a quick tap vs. a longer press has 2 different operations for buttons or certain hat positions. - VKB gunfighter base vs Virpils bases: VKB has a dry clutch. Yes I followrd their guide. Very close to the real thing (comparing it to C-130J and A400M controls). I read somewhere that you need the virpil software to tell the OS that it's 2 different inputs. The ideal base for Warthog - a heavy (~1KG) grip plus extension is T50CM2. Ive been taking it for a test drive on my custom-built flight rig. It will also likely have the same kind of impact when Elite Dangerous: Odyssey launches later this year, adding first-person, on-foot gameplay to that spacefaring game. Im looking at either going the virpil mongoos T-50 CM2 base with the mongoos T-50 CM2 grip or constellation alpha grip with the 200mm S curve extension for 554.81 euro (905.89 aud) (includes shipping). The Gunfighter is apparently available so even though I probably don't need it, common sense might desert me and I'll plump for the pricier option just because I cant wait. Oh, and to actually answer your question: both the virpil constellation and vkb kosmosima are fantastic. Press J to jump to the feed. > Q&A Those look awfully nice. It works perfectly with all buttons. How easy was the software to learn? I was hoping for something like this for Virpil Hotas. I have a good comparison of VKB and Virpil looking at the Modern Combat Grip (Their other premium grip, recently being re-released in an all-metal build) and the Constellation-Alpha, and they perform nearly identical in my opinion.. My personal experience with VKB's Kosmosima grip (the grip that comes in their MK3 space combat edition package) is very negative. I want to choose the best one for nice grip and feel, reaching buttons with s/med hands, good button placement, usability with Elite and SC, easy twisting for yaw and good centring with no drift. I will be using the TM Warthog grip with a stickextension, so if anyone happens to run a similar setup on either the VKB or Virpil yourthoughts will be greatly appreciated. Both multiple cam and spring force options. 04.08.20|The sheet for the Throttle has been updated (a button was missing). I don't predict it being a huge game changer, but it's kinda the first time we've had an all metal grip in a high end joystick. I have a VKB stick/pedals and a Virpil throttle, and I feel that VKB hardware is higher quality overall (mostly due to the electronics/internals). Did you a manage to get your bindings for Elite dangerous ? Note: This is ONLY to be used to report spam, advertising, and problematic (harassment, fighting, or rude) posts. Both are great sticks, I have both of them and use extensions with them - however I have not tried using the Warthog grip as I am happy with their grips. That brings the price for a full HOTAS mounting solution closer to $180. VirPil make easy use Tm Warthog (or Cougar) grip in their bases, since use the same connection nut and grip electronics. The VKB is slightly more refined whilst the Virpil is heavier duty. Cookie Notice - Virpil WARbrd vs VKB: WARbrd base has movement range of +/-22 degrees, where as the VKB bases have +/-15 degrees. But as far as quality of the gimbals, both are fantastic. Have a look through the Virpil forums. I found a couple of programs like this but some of them are no longer . Also, I did notice some defective materials in the batch of products that I received. You're not running all your USB devices through the one hub are you? Swapping out the throttle for another stick meant that I had to constantly hold the left-hand stick forward to maintain forward thrust. It may take time. For using the Warthog grip, the easier to work with would be the Virpil base, as it uses the same pinout/connections. I have the twist adapter for the original MCG and while the twist itself is great, the ergonomics of the MCG grip are not the best for twisting (as it was never really designed for that). Unless you know where they are on the sticks, it'll be very confusing. It may show you something you did wrong. Probably a little bit of a chore to swap them out. Vs the VKB Gunfighter MK3 with the modern combat edition grip and 200mm s curve extension for 433.13 euro ($707.21 aud) (includes shipping). I've gone back to a single, non-split profile, still nada on any of the three axes . Complete your WWII Flight Sim setup with this GNX Combo Throttle I plan on positing a review of the mcg ultimate once I receive it (should be getting it later this week hopefully) if you're curious. So, just to make sure I have this strait, MCG is the 'Modern Combat' Gunfighter stick and the Kosmosima is the 'Space Combat' edition of the gunfighter? I have an in-depth write up here. Edit: Didn't realize that winwing sticks were metal. This is significant. I do use pedals too but haven't even mapped twist on my right hand, so that's itself not a limitation if you didn't intend to use them. I can't speak for Virpil's interiors but I've been inside the grip on my VKB and the way they use independent little boards with pin receptacles to link things together on the Kosmo Premium is amazing, and would be very easy to obtain parts for repair if only one control were to fail for any reason. Maybe you should check out youtube and see the posts about how to do the setup. The right-hand stick still has complete control of pitch and yaw, while rudder pedals handle roll. Virpil's compression springs in the Mongoos are nice, but the WarBRD doesn't use them. Question on the VKB customization software? In all honesty, I am leaning toward the virpil stick, but what I want to know is are their hidden pros or cons to each stick that I should know about and is the additional ~$80US for Virpil (and the wait) worth it over the VKB? What 'limit' are you talking about? Got a Virpil throttle but I can only program about half the hats, axis', and buttons because of ED limiting us to 32 "buttons" per device. Starting to wonder about the all-metal construction with that new ultimate grip, and maybe investing in a heavier duty base. No rush though, as we all know its not a quick in out game. Nevertheless, late last year Virpil sent along a selection of its most popular flight gear. They also have just the right amount of heft to them, and feel like a substantial upgrade to the kinds of flight sticks Ive been using for the last decade. Between the WarBRD and Gunfighter options it really seems to come down to personal preference and I'll never know without putting my hands on each. Either way, in terms of quality and build at least it seems like a toss up. I would think it should be enough. Virpil's software isn't very intuitive.
